3-D Illustrations Tell the Whole Story
My style has been called “Rodin-like,” in some respects, although my work is usually very light-hearted and comedic.
I prefer Super SculpeyTM, but am highly skilled and trained in watercolors, guache, oils, acrylics, pastels, conte cranyon, colored pencil, clay, leather, fabric and mixed media, to name a few. Although I enjoy sculptural techniques for my illustrations, I can flow easily into 2-D work without blinking an eye.
In auditioning for a book illustration job, I am open to doing sketches for 2-D work and sketches and/or machetes (small models) for 3-D work.
A retired U.S. Navy illustrator, I spent 17 of my 21-year career doing illustrations for printed material, portraits, murals and graphic design for training, instructional and aesthetic purposes.
I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 3-D Illustration from Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design in Denver, Colorado, graduating Summa Cum Laude.
Owning and operating a niche specific publishing company, called Tarnochtai Publishing (pronounced tar-nok’-tee), and a freelance illustration studio in Kittredge, Colorado, I possess the skills and knowledge necessary to meet any client’s illustrative needs.
All of my fees are negotiable because they are project-dependent. My average quote runs between $65 per hour, for small, simple work (usually includes 2-D mediums and small 3-D characters – usually under 10”) and $175 per hour for large, complex sculptural work (usually 10” or larger).
