Artist Captures Urban Landscape

by Francis McCrory
(Belfast, Northern Ireland)

An old derelict house

An old derelict house

Urba Suburba

I am fascinated with the process of urban decay, desolation and transition. with unprepossessing city landscapes, graffiti and street furniture...the ordinary, the neglected, and the overlooked.

My desire is to evoke an emotional response in the viewer by transporting them on a nostalgic, even disturbing journey to buildings and places that once held memory.

I aim to achieve an impact and unity of each piece which reflects that critical balance between seeing and feeling that I believe is the corner stone of my work.

The house that stirs...
by: Aussieoibooks

Thanks Francis for your beautiful drawing of an old house; a place that evokes memories from days of previous grandeur, when folk waved from the windows and admired the garden below; a place where people lived with ease, enjoying the good life, preparing for the upcoming balls; watching the fashion parade on the street below. Even a murder or two may be hidden within its walls; a night by the fire when someone mysteriously disappeared into the netherworld of its extremes.

I love the lady with the umbrella, just looking as though she connects with its past and its present, sadness and joy rolled into one. Yes, this could provide a good book cover for a detective mystery, a historical romance novel or a contemporary story of someone hiding within. Congratulations.

a ready artist
by: arindam

francis to me is a prepared artist. he is far far away from the strugglers. the magical light, the colours, the loneliness, a melancholy moisture in his paintings makes me fall in love with the indistinct yet realistic pictures. i wish him a great journey.
