Authors' Book Blogs
Free to Read, Free to Write

Book Blogs at The Shared Self Publishing Experience: Advantages

  • Blog on a site with existing traffic you can share in.
  • Be up and running in minutes - just post to the form below.
  • Surround yourself - virtually - with other authors.
  • Easiest interface ever. Just type and submit, as often as you like.
  • Others can comment on your blog just as easily.
  • Nothing prevents you from blogging elsewhere as well.
  • It's free.

Book Blogs at The Shared Self Publishing Experience: Disadvantages

  • No html. I'll provide one link to your book on Amazon (if it's there!), and one to the webpage of your choice. After that...no links, just text. KIND OF LIKE IN A BOOK!!!
  • No images, except your book cover. (Kind of like in a book.)
  • No "blogrolls," no "profile page" - nothing between you and your reader but your words

These are one page book blogs, each one unlimited in total length.

Starting your author blog

Give your blog an appealing, descriptive title.

Compose your opening post in a text editor, like NotePad. Put some thought into it!

(And by the way: no do-overs. This is blogging just like the cavemen did it! Editing a post would require me getting involved, and I can't put that kind of time into a free service.)

Say something about yourself, your writing efforts and experience, what you're up to now and what you hope to accomplish with the blog. Unlike other pages on the site, you can self-promote as much as you want.

Be engaging. Be readable. Build suspense. ("Tomorrow I'm supposed to hear from Oprah...I hope she'll drop charges.") Give people a reason to keep coming back.

(And keep it clean.)

Unlike most blogs, your first post will ALWAYS be at the top of your blog, so new readers will discover you the way you want to be discovered. (Subsequent posts will appear with the most recent first.)

You have approximately 9200 characters to work with in your first post. Subsequent posts are limited to about 2800 characters but you can make as many of them as you want.

(Use a double return for paragraph breaks. Indents won't work.)

Blog strategies

The more frequently you post to your blog, the more respect the search engines are likely to pay it. Also...

The more you keep to a theme, the more highly the search engines will think of your blog.

Write about

  • your recipes
  • the lump on your aunt's neck
  • your job, and
  • your resentment of a bestselling author...

...and your blog will be likely to rank highly any time someone searches

You know: once a century.

Authors with book blogs on the theme of self publishing as it relates to their book's subject matter, on the other hand, are likely to attract more attention.

Once you've written your first post...

Copy it into the form and upload a JPEG of your book's cover. You only get one image! So if you want to show a bunch of your books, make a JPEG collage and upload it. Size of the JPEG needs to be less than 1MB.

Enter your name and location, accept the submission guidelines, copy the word in the box into the smaller box, then submit. You'll get an opportunity to review your submission, as well as an opportunity to be informed when your blog goes live and when comments are made to it.

Make subsequent posts just by clicking the link on your blog that reads, "Click here to post comments."

It's that easy!

To prove it, I'll create the first blog. Just page below the form to see the book blogs listed.

Authors, blog to it!

Create Your Self Published Book Blog

Share your writing and publishing experiences and exploits. Make this the place to post career updates. Even if you haven't yet begun your self publishing career, you can use this venue to launch (or supplement) your online presence.

Your first post will always be at the top of your blog, so give it your best effort. If it would be part of your profile, it should be part of this first post.

Tip: Compose your post in a text editor (like NotePad) and paste it into the form below. Click the question mark if you want to learn how to bold.
