Climbing Mount Everest! Marketing on a Budget

Brown Little Babies

Marketing can be just as difficult as climbing Mount Everest! I am a self published author through xlibris publishing company. Putting together my book was much more enjoyable for me than trying to market the book. I am disabled and cannot get out to do book readings. So I started looking for ways to market my book on line.

First I started with a beautiful website. To bring more business to my site. I added ads by google, a links section and I will be adding affiliates section. I have to be creative because I spent most of my budget creating the book. I also chose to advertise my site on as many free avenues I can. For example. I have a myspace dedicated to my book I also have a group for children's authors and illustrators on my space, I hope you join us, where they can showcase there work and bookcovers and support and give each other advise. I'm on my facebook, I market on craigslist. I searched for things like free classifieds, free advertisements, and free search engines. The process is time consuming but worth it. I also looked up book clubs and placed my ad on other authors sites. One site I have my book on is sweeties place and she helped me a great deal it is a cute site. Supporting others on your site is very important. I am still working on my efforts to promote my book. I'm getting ready to start a new idea to promote my book offline. I will be targeting daycare centers across the country. Either with brochures or calling them personally, introducing myself and plugging my book. I will try any avenue because I think my book is worth it and I don't want my disablity to stand in my way. So even if you can't leave your home, there are all kinds of ways you can market your book. Just look for words like free, low budget, and sharing your link with book clubs, other authors, affliates, free search engines, etc. It takes time but you will start seeing results, just keep at it because your book is worth every afford. Don't forget word of mouth it goes a long way!

P.S.
You can also use your own personal signature to your e-mail. You can go to your e-mail address and press options and look for personal signature and give a description of your site and your url and everytime you send a new e-mail it will automatically be attached to every e-mail you send out! And it's free advertisement for your website and book!

Links! Don't forget the links!
by: Steve B.

Evelyn, Julie, I just wanted to add, never to miss an opportunity to get a link to your website. If you can get a live link on kijiji to your website, always do it. The search engines like to see links. Craigslist too is a place to advertise locally and get links.

Thank you for the complement! You should never give up on your dreams no matter what. I have my add on kiijii. I am going to place it on Walmart, I didn't know they had one. also try to find a way to make your website more like a business, have more than just your books on there make it a reason people want to come to your site. I'm working on that now, I was going to try affiliates too. If you have anymore ideas let me know all of us should keep each other going! smile! Thanks again

CONGRATS.!
by: Julie W. Buscher

KUDOS to you , Evelyn, on everything you've done and are doing! I've pursued a lot of internet marketing, as you have, but haven't yet enjoyed as much luck; however you've encouraged me to keep on trying.

A couple of free new resources: eBay's popular Kijiji
www.kijiji.com

and WalMart's new FREE online classifieds, debuted two weeks ago at:
http://walmart.oodle.com

Keep up the good work. Success to you!

Evelyn does so many of the little things
by: Steve B.

Evelyn, thanks for sharing. You sure are beating the bushes for links and traffic. You're doing a lot of things right.

(That's why I gave you 5 stars even though you submitted everything in CAPS (on the internet that's considered shouting, and I didn't want you to drown out the other submitters on the site), and even though your punctuation leaves a lot to be desired. (I hope you're working on that!))

Here's the thing though: I think you're always going to be limited in the traffic you draw to your site by the limited size of your site!

It's true. You've gotta have a big net to catch a lot of fish. You've gotta have a big site to net a lot of traffic. That's one of the sad truths of internet marketing.

So despite all the things you're doing right in terms of drawing the maximum amount of traffic to your site, there's going to be a low maximum!

Think for a moment: what could you write about on your site that would attract the kind of visitors who might buy your doll?

Here's a trick. The first words in the first sentence on your site are "Celebrate Diversity." I'm going to take that 2nd word, Diversity, and carry it with me over to a Google site you may be familiar with since you mentioned having posted Google ads on your site.

It's the Adwords tool. Advertisers use it to help determine how much they might be willing to pay per click for an ad on your site.

I'm going to enter that word, Diversity. It brings up some subjects that you might find worth researching and writing about. Subjects like:

Cultural diversity
Diversity training
Diversity in the workplace
Diversity training
Diversity program
School diversity

Now maybe I'm crazy, but it occurs to me that people who are searching for information about such things might also be interested in your doll! To my mind, that's how you broaden a website's appeal...and increase its traffic.

I use a suite of tools included in my web host's package that helps me figure out what to write about on my sites. It's invaluable. My other site - a little over two years old as I write this - gets about 1500 page views per day.

That's a lot of chances to sell a book, don't you think?

Keep up the good work!
