Self Publishing A Coffee Table Book

If art or photography is your thing, self publishing is an option. But if you want a coffee table quality book, it's not going to be easy...or cheap. Take the concerns you normally have with the archival nature of your work and multiply them.

Self publishing your photography or art in the form of a book means taking responsibility for

  • preparing your work for reproduction
  • design and layout
  • paper quality
  • ink quality
  • binding quality
  • Translation: there's an overwhelming amount of detail to concern yourself with before you even get to think about the marketing and selling of your book. And of course, self publishing photography and art is expensive.

You'll be facing the same cost-per-unit dilemma that text publishers do...only multiplied. Do a small press run (in case the books don't sell) to keep your total cost relatively low, or invest in a huge press run to keep your per unit costs relatively low?

Posted below are the real-life self publishing experiences of artists & photographers who have self published...and survived. Some of them have even gone on to do it again!

Here's your opportunity to learn from those who have been there, done that. You'll read about successes and setbacks.

Learn from their mistakes. Build on their successes.
