Las Vegas Psychic Sells Books!

by Mystic Mona
(Las Vegas, NV)

Las Vegas Psychic Sells Books!

I dreamed about a method of divination based on the throwing of two dice. That very morning I began writing my book, Chancing Life, Wisdom in a Dice Toss.

A person would think of a question while holding a pair of dice in his or her left hand and then roll the dice. Then he or she would note the left-to-right order of the dice and look up the meaning in the book.

I sold my first 300 copies before they were even printed to a Casino property that booked me for a upcoming VIP event. It was a great success and that client ended up purchasing a total of 1,200 copies total - which paid for the printing of the first 2,000 copies I produced.

Obtained my copyright, contracted my own graphic artist for the cover design and print layout of the book, obtained my list of 10 ISBNs, and chose a printing company to print the book.

I printed a total of 4,000 copies and sold 3,200 of them to (mostly) clients of my entertainment business. I gave away about 300 copies and have 240 in stock. Unless I get a large order, I will not reprint the book. Made a little bit of a profit and gained the experience of publishing my own book from "soup to nuts."

My advice to self publishing authors is to make sure you're getting the best deal, advice, and experience. I have a kick-butt idea for marketing my next book, but since I haven't seen anyone else try this, I'm going to wait until it's a huge success before I share it.

Will I self publish again, absolutely! Will I go with the self publishing organizations where they own the copyright/rights to the book and pay me a "commission" for what's sold? No.

I see future success--no crystal ball needed

Mona, great post.

Your example reminds me that successful self publishing is, these days, often a result of already having an audience.

That's the reason traditional publishers are looking for authors with an existing platform - platform being anything that means you can reach significant amounts of people. I suppose that could mean you're a public speaker, a comedian, Las Vegas's official psychic, someone with 100,000 Facebook friends, or...

Someone with a successful, highly trafficked website.

Don't forget to post when you come out with that next great idea!
