A quirky little mystery!

A quirky little mystery!

Genre: Cozy mysteries with a touch of humor

After months of researching the bewildering plethora of self publishing companies listed on-line, I managed to chose the one I thought would offer me the best deal for my limited investment dollars. My choice - Infinity Publishing. I sent off for their free publishing guide, which also served as a sample of their book making skills. After reviewing the guide, I made the leap of faith and signed on to have them publsih my debut novel Sour Grapes.

The guide was very informative and made the submission process easy to complete. Within a matter of mere months I was holding my completed book in my hands. It looked fabulous! Their art deparment staff had taken my scribbled attempts at a cover and created one that was eye-catching and professional. The quality of the print and the paper was exceptional - bright and clear. They delivered all that they had agreen upon in the contract I signed with them. I maintain all rights to my work, get some very generous royalties and have my own website to promote my book, a listing on most of the major on-line book sellers and quick response support via email.

The only problems I encountered were of my own making and no fault of Infinity. I could not affored their editing service and so I did it myself. Even after reading over my manuscript four times, I missed a lot of errors. Infinty corrects forty of them free but after that it costs a pretty penny. So, get someone else with some skill to proof read your manuscript before you send it off.

As for marketing, I chose thier least expensive package and got what I paid for, which, in the way of maketing, was very little. They offer add ons for marketing and/or higher quality packages that give better marketing but again, it was beyond my means at the time.

Would I do it again? Yes, if only for the experience of dipping my toe in the world of publishing.

Would I use Infinty again? Probably, but I would want to save up more funds so I could make use of one of their better packages, I think I would be selling a lot more books if I did.

So happy!
by: Steve B. (webmaster)

M.E., it's so wonderful that you're so happy! Infinity must be very pleasant to deal with. I feel compelled though to tell you some of the things I learn from other self published authors.

Marketing programs are notoriously overpriced and underdelivering. Most self publishers I know of would say that you're better off not having bought that package. They take responsibility for their own marketing and fail or succeed on those efforts.

Generic editing is no more a cure-all than spellcheck. (Hears an ex-sample of an sentence who cud make it thru spell Czech.) Five different editors might "repair" an unclear passage five different ways. Chances are that the best editors in the world do not reside at Infinity Publishing. The best editor is someone not only with mastery of the language but a willingness to check with you to determine your meaning when it's unclear.

Also, if the website Infinity "gave" you is the one you've linked us to above, I'm afraid they haven't given you all that much. You may not know this, but there are web hosts you can find on your own that will let you put up a site for free, and without the unsightly advertising pinching into your page!

All that said, your cover is every bit lovely as you say.

Do have a look about the site and read what other authors are saying and doing to promote their books. And welcome!
