Myriad Styles

by Jordan Kent
(Ottawa, Ontario, Canada)

Redhead, 20

Redhead, 20"x20" acrylic on fabric

Jordan Kent has branded her illustration business "General Store Productions" because of her myriad styles and focuses: Jordan's adaptability allows her to offer a virutal 'general store' of options for her clientele.

Jordan works a great deal in ink, paint, and currently, a great deal of collage work combining new and repurposed materials. She is a traditionalist and uses computer illustration with discretion, finding that handmade work connects better with the viewer.

Jordan has worked most recently on CD covers for two folk musicians--Missy Burgess and Lyndell Montgomery-- and enjoys the process of actualizing the ideas of her client and/or partner in the creative process.

In the collaborative process, Jordan usually will meet or speak with you about your project, request some of your materials (ie. lyrics, story, etc), and will produce a few ideas. From there, both parties can build a comfortable working relationship and be sure of a successful end product.

ABOUT JORDAN KENT

Jordan began her art career at the age of 17, when she was recruited, sans formal training, to work at a local animation studio as a key animator. Jordan left the animation field to pursue more variety and flexibility in her art career. She works primarily freelance, producing commissions of private collections as well as commercial projects. Recently she has become enamoured with creating eco-friendly art, often using remaindered materials and recycling, repurposing, and reusing them in new and exciting ways. (The image above is, for example, painted on remaindered fabric that was headed for the trash).

Jordan's style has a modern, graphic bite to it; while she is a great emulator of other styles, her strengths lay in a unique blend of line, texture, and tone. Some of her bestselling work has been in greyscale.

Jordan is an art instructor at the Ottawa School of Art, and works a great deal with youth.

FEES

Jordan works on a flexible fee schedule; she requests that clients be honest about their budget, and she will attempt to work within it. Budget restrictions will sometimes require work to be done in specific media, and Jordan will employ her improvisational powers to provide you with a fantastic final product.
