Predicting the Future is One Thing, Spreading the Word is Another

Current Events, Conservative Outcomes

Like most authors, I struggle to find time to write and in my case the problem is exasurbated by my pre-writing rituals. Writing is not as simple as just getting the creative juices flowing for me (GA Freiman). Before writing actually takes place I do a sort of medititation or prayer where I attempt to get a glimpse of what the future holds around my topic. Couple these pre-writing rituals with modern life and you can guess how frustrating writing can be for me.

I also am intrigued by the most dire current events that our nation faces and tend to write along those lines. So getting it correct is paramount for me. My writing is designed to explain the issues facing our great nation as well as ways that we as ordinary citizens can help improve the situation at hand. It is important to me that my readers are not only entertained but informed on how they can help improve our children's future.

I spent years writing Current Events, Conservative Outcomes; Predictions for America's Future and assumed that the writing would be the hardest part. What a naive thought that was. What I did not realize was for my book to be a success, the theme and message had to reach many people. Writing for me is an enjoyable thing but after I spent years researching and noodling on so many important topics, it was crucial to share the logic with as many people as I could.

So that is where the term self publishing comes in. I did not want to share whatever profit I may have with a corporation that has there own self preserving interests. So I embarked on self publishing after reading a few books on the topic and viewing a lot of internet resources. Yet, I had no idea how tough it was to compete in the modern book market. There are so many titles and ways to sell today that it easily intimidated me.

Knowing that I did not have the time to be a one man band, I contracted a print on demand company to help me handle the basics. In my opinion it was very inexpensive and the pay back was easily achieved. My company of choice was Xulon Press due to there Christian reputation. Xulon deals with the printing and warehousing portion of the business for the slightly marked up price of printing the books. They also did the first round of marketing and where a good choice for someone like me who has very little time. That is not to say that all people who self publish should contract professional help. Many people who truly self publish and do everything themselves find it completely rewarding and more profitable than others.

Current Events, Conservative Outcomes is a completed book so I am working hard to spread the word. It can be very difficult with all the entertainment choices Americans have today to convince people to read your book. I have found that reviews are a great way to get my work out in the marketplace. It is very rewarding to get a positive book review and know that the reviewer will post acceptance of your work in whatever media they operate. I have also found social networking sites on the internet to be useful. It is easy to grab people of like interest and tell them about your book as a way of starting a buzz around the project. The first rule of selling is to market to those who have a need for your goods. This can easily be achieved on the internet.

All in all, my experience in self publishing has been very educational and fun. I have met lots of interesting people and learned much about them. I must adimit that selling books is great but the feedback from my readers is what will make writing my next book much easier than the last. I make a point to ask as many readers as possible what they would like me to cover in my next book. This and the whole writing process is my way of giving back to the good people of our great nation.

How many fingers am I holding up?
by: Steve B.

G.A., thanks for sharing.

I'm a skeptic. When someone tells me they can see into the future, that they're "America's Nostradamus," I want some evidence!

I'm not finding it on your website. I suppose I could find it in your book, but I'd probably have to wait a few years to see how things turn out.

If I sound glib, that's not my intent. I think your website could use some more content. I think if you were to tell us some things you've predicted, that came true, it might offer some validation for your book.

Similarly, I've noticed that folks of your political persuasion tend to have a lot to say. Perhaps there's room on your site for people to offer opinions.

Here's what I'm getting at: the bigger a site is, the more apt it is to get found by the search engines. A one book site with just a few pages is operating at a major disadvantage.

So who's going to win the election? I want details!!! (Please come back and comment here if you're willing to lay your prediction on the line!)
