Self Published Comic

SCAPULA by Aidan Casserly

Scapula

I've been drawing comics for as long as there have been math/history/english classes, and even though Mrs. Ferguson told me that I'd never make it anywhere in life by drawing 'funnybooks' I went ahead and did it anyway.

My first self-publishing experience was in 2007, when I joined a small group of comic rogues (the extremely cool Randy Paule and Jamaica Dyer), when we did a compendium of our comic work to distribute at that years Alternate Press Expo. However, I had another comic project in the works that I had been keeping to myself for the longest time, until I finally figured, "Aw, hell, I have to branch out on my own someday, right?". So I self-published another comic, SCAPULA.

SCAPULA is a series about the world's worst villain...'worst' in every sense of the word.

It was a fun experience and got me going on developing SCAPULA into a long-running webcomic series that I still continue to this day. Whether or not I self-publish another book is to be determined, but it was a great experience and I SURVIVED IT!

Self-Published
by: Aidan

Hiya,

I'll clarify: it was self-published in the most basic sense: I xeroxed all the pages and stapled them, then sold them one-by-one. Very, very simple, but a great way to start. Zines are not only a wonderful way to teach artists about creating comics but also about the rest of the system (production and distribution).

Currently the zine is no longer in production, but will probably be posted in its entirety in the near future. In the meantime, anyone who is interested in SCAPULA should just go to the webcomics site; if you are interested in buying the zine just shoot me an e-mail and we'll talk.

Hope that helps!

Webmaster: It does. Thanks!

purchasing a new scapula
by: Steve B. (webmaster)

Aidan, let me start by saying I love your work. The art is playful and confident, a joy to look at. But you say you've self-published. Does that mean I can purchase it? Because I can't find it on Amazon, and I can't figure out how to buy it from your site!

What am I missing? Is it only in webcomic form? Do you monetize it in anyway?

More info would be great!
