Storing a Story!

by Terri Bea
(Cincinnati, OH)

Mattie Prophet

Mattie Prophet

For years I've always been known as a detailed storyteller. Able to spin a tale without even really trying to entertain, but rather explain or enlighten someone as to what I felt about an issue or circumstance I was going through.

Like most stories, not everyone wants to invest in your experiences...so I discovered that the best investor is myself. I was the one telling the story, so I should be the one to invest in it.

I like the self-publishing experience because others who hear my story want to "interpret" what they heard and then they want me to say what I've said a different way... "what you mean to say is this..." Or, "you shouldn't say it like that..." Well for me, if I'm telling you a story I know exactly how and what I'm saying.

So I decided to tell my story, the way God gave it to me. Like the Bible, God gave it the way it was, not the way He thought we would like to hear it.

No one in self-publishing can tell you that you shouldn't say this or that...you just say it, 'cause it may impact or impart to someone the help, healing or holiness they want or need.

Mattie Prophet isn't for everybody, but it's for somebody to know that God can and will use anybody to deliver HIS word. The WORLD doesn't care how they say what's on their mind...the complete opposite...they write books that say there is no God and we buy it to see if that's really what they said lol.

If you want to self-publish a story and fill it from Open to Close with JESUS JESUS JESUS!, people will buy the book to see if that's really all you've said in the book and in the process they see and say the name Jesus! You did it and no one could stop you! I self published my story, market it myself, and I would do it again with every story I will ever write. If I only sell 10 books, that's ten people who were helped, healed and made whole by my investing in what God gave me to do.

Be blessed!

THIS one is a JUDAH PRAISE!!
by: Terri Bea

I've just released my new book MATTIE'S SONG the sequel to MATTIE PROPHET. I went through all kinds of hoops and blew several whistles to attempt getting this story picked up by a Commercial Publisher. I even went so far as to try to sign an Agent because I believe so much in this storyline! Well of course, without a big name already established (as if Jesus Christ isn't big enough!) No one would even consider backing or signing me. So once again I found myself back out on the self-publishing door-stoop! I knew what I wanted and what to look for this time around. I got a fabulous girlfriend of mine to edit my writing. I designed my own cover and I called the shots! I contacted a familiar self-publishing company and in less than 60 days this new EXCITING book is now LIVE! Yes, I would love for a publisher to recognize me or an Agent to say, "Hey this book will really do well!" But I learned from a storyline in my own God-inspired book that, God calls you and qualifies you and the World may never want it, but they will always need the TRUTH! I believe they will "catch it" one day and I will be the one pitching. Authorhouse, was instrumental in helping me. They walk you through it and its very affordable. I spent less than $500 to publish this book. (See it at AuthorHouse.) I hope you all enjoy it!

HOW to self-publish
by: Terri Bea

The first thing you need to do is find a reason WHY you should pubish your story. Is anyone else telling the same story? Why is your take on a subject different from anyone elses? You will need to do this first because you will have to explain it later. Are you sold out on what your books about? Self publishing says you are willing to go on even if no one else thinks you should, because you believe in your story. Do your homework, check EVERYBODY first, send a synopsis to agents, and commerical publishers. For me this is helpful because it gets your name out there and your work in their face even if they don't accept it, they have to read it. What is out there now? What type of stories are publishers looking for? What stories get the most interest? Are Fiction books or Non-Fiction books getting the most interest? Make sure the self-publisher is reputable, don't just do it to be doing it! Watch out for HIGH COSTS and fees. Once you've self published, send a copy to the publishers and agents that turned you down. An attractive cover and professional presentation, may cause them to look at it another way. It's not easy, it's a lot of hard work, but if you believe in it...it will be worth it.

Lots of why, not a lot of how!
by: Steve B.

Terri, thanks for telling us why you chose to self publish. I'm thrilled for you that you got to get your word out there exactly how you wanted it.

What would be really helpful for the people on this site, though, is if you could tell us more about how you get your word out there. Your website is clearly part of the equation.

If you'd like to tell us more, just fill out the Comments form on your page.
