Worth the Effort!

Angels and Quilt Pieces

Angels and Quilt Pieces

As my diary evolved into a book, I began the quest for an agent or publisher. I found this quest mind-boggling and had no idea where to begin.

When I was approached to use the book as a fund raiser, I knew I would have to utilize a POD and self-publish my book. This way I could get the book published without waiting months or years IF I could find a traditional publisher.

As I searched the internet for a POD publisher, I would look for any comments or reviews for that publisher. There are many POD publishers, so researching each one is very important in your decision. I wanted to find the right one for me and my book.

I finally chose BookSurge and I have been happy with my choice. My rep is friendly and helpful, orders come in a timely manner, and it was automatically listed on Amazon.

99% of my sales have been through me. My target audience is not the internet savvy type, they prefer the personal contact. They would rather pick up the phone and order a book than order one through Amazon or my website.

Word of mouth advertising has worked best for me to this point, and now my efforts are more concentrated on finding the target audience on the internet. Thanks to many websites such as this, the job is much easier!

Modest Title for Hidden Treasure
by: Darry Markowitz

Angels and Quilt Pieces- What a modest title hiding a true account of the nature of our country for better and for worse.

Angels and Quilt Pieces

Not told by some conniving politician. Not construed by a marketer with only dollar signs in their eyes. Not told by anyone famous. Told by the true descriptions of our Americans. Us. We the people.

What have we need for story when we can be shown reality and let that speak for itself? This true account is from the best heart of what our country has to offer, from the democrat, from the republican, from the religious, from the non-religious! It is so much more than the story of the Katrina disaster and what is so obvious between the lines is as important as the lines.

This true account of how all those various groups of people interacted in that disaster and its aftermath gives us two major areas of consideration: The hope for a true unity in our country through the best that we all have to offer. But also a warning as to the destructive nature of the worst that our various groups have to offer.

This is a humble book without favorites, without prejudice, and with such a deep love for people that unless you are very sick and twisted inside, you will read it, nod your head, shed tears, and feel fuller inside for the true, human love that enters your heart and stirs your mind. For those looking for an example of true Christian love that they hear preached every Sunday, they will find in this book how to live it without preaching it- and so the testimony is far stronger!

This is a book with the power to heal our country, for us all to gain a better respect and appreciation for one another no matter where we come from, what group we belong to, or what economic status we have.

And the most amazing quality of this book is that it is simply the accurate account of our real, everyday people. It is not media hype with an agenda that we all, no matter who we are, are so tired of hearing. This book is our unabashed reality. Please. Everyone should read this and contemplate.

I know I said I'd add another comment, but if you want some tips and critiques on your website I'm limited in length in how much I can say right here. How about officially submitting your site for critique here on the site? I'll be able to give you a more complete answer, and you can supply me a few more details that'll help!

And thanks for the links to the site!

All Ears Open!
by: Stephanie

Steve
Thanks for the comments and for the feedback on my website. It has been a labor of love, and I am so glad that it is producing results.

I am all ears for any tips, hints or critique. Since my readers to this point have been the non-internet savvy type, I am working hard to connect with an audience on the internet.

So glad I ran across you and your site!

I'm the webmaster and I bought this book
by: Steve B.

Stephanie, I don't want to talk about marketing, as I usually do. And I don't just want to talk to you. I want to talk to everyone who will ever read this page.

I just bought the book Stephanie wrote. I've never done that before with any of the well over 100 books so far (June, 2008) on this site. But when I visited Stephanie's site, I was so moved...

I am not a religious person, but I bought the book even though Stephanie's story and Stephanie herself are clearly guided by her beliefs and her faith. Stephanie and her husband Randy have done such a beautiful thing.

They have adopted a family...a HUGE family. They have even adopted a parent. All of it under terrible, dire circumstances. They have given as if they didn't know how NOT to give.

I have said, in my newsletter and elsewhere on the site, that the key to internet success is (oddly enough) giving. Why, and what do I mean by that?

The reason internet success results from giving is that electronic delivery of product is driving the price of many things down towards FREE. If anyone is skeptical of that, consider internet music downloads.

Similarly, no one wants to pay for information that they can get free on the internet. Google doesn't charge for a search. And our favorite sites don't charge us to visit. They all have ways to make money that don't cost US money.

Stephanie LIVES giving. All of that giving is reflected in her site and her blog. It caused me to like her, to trust her, and to want to buy from her to learn more.

The internet has a way of turning aspiring entrepreneurs (for instance, self published authors with a book to hawk) into used car salesman.

They don't know you have to give to get. They don't have a site that conveys, "'Tis better to give than to receive."

And I don't buy their books. Because, essentially, their sites are all about their books and their transparent efforts to convince me how much I'm going to enjoy/learn from/gain from their books.

We aren't all going to adopt a Katrina family, as Stephanie has. But we can still learn to get by giving on the 'net. What can we give? Information. We can create a free information site on a subject we know, gain our visitors' trust and affection (like Stephanie did mine) and then hope that a few of them buy our books.

Stephanie, if you'd like to discuss how your site might attract more traffic, write back by commenting. Everyone else: please go visit Stephanie's site. You'll be glad you did.
